Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy encompasses many different techniques to accomplish the goals set by the client. I do not adhere to a specific modality, but tailor the sessions to meet each client’s need based on their concerns, age, and what I believe can best help reach their objective. I am dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those I see through a warm and supportive environment.

CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS

As a parent it can be difficult to know when your child’s behavior is part of growing up or a sign of a bigger issue. All children/adolescents are different and even the most typical child may engage in problematic behavior at times. If your child/adolescent repeatedly engages in different behavior, it may be the time to seek professional help and receive the support needed to provide your child with the opportunity to be healthy and happy.

CHILDREN

Whether it is facing a difficult family situation, trouble with friends or anxiety, child counseling focuses on breaking problems down so that children can understand and make sense of them. They internalize negative experiences in their life and it is important for them to feel understood.  In a safe, non-judgmental setting your child can experience their feelings in effective ways. Many children have trouble verbalizing their emotions and therefore different forms of therapy, such as play and art, can be beneficial and may be used throughout our sessions with one another.

ADOLESCENTS

Some problems that adolescents may experience are troubled relationships, social pressures, insecurity, self-esteem and identity.  Adolescents may also experience symptoms of depression which manifest as irritability, lack of interest in previously enjoyed activities, anger and withdrawal from friends and family. Any of these concerns can result in behavioral difficulties, such as truancy, substance use and self-injurious behavior.  My goal is to create a space where we can build an authentic relationship with the awareness that listening, not passing judgement and building trust is most important.

YOUNG ADULTS

This period of life, between the ages of 18 and 26, is characterized by unique challenges brought about by numerous rapid changes where one is moving into adult roles and responsibilities. Some young adults embrace this transition, others may find it overwhelming or confusing and some may experience ambivalent thoughts and feelings. My goal is to help them negotiate this new world, to gain confidence, manage their life, be aware of their fears and obstacles and gain strength to see their opportunities as they move towards independence and increased self-confidence.

INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES

I have a strong desire to treat those with social, emotional, developmental and intellectual disabilities.  A treatment plan will be developed that best encourages the individual to reach their greatest potential. With compassion and patience, I will work with your child using a variety of talk, play and art therapy techniques designed to give your child the tools and language they need to express themselves. My services include: consulting on your child’s I.E.P., collaborating and partnering with parents, other therapists and medical professionals, schools, and community agencies to ensure an interdisciplinary team approach.
